Alacrity Launches Seminar Series to Help Consumers Manage Their Bills

Alacrity Collections Corporation launched a Community Outreach Program. The program offers seminars to help consumers better manage their bills by sharing helpful information. It also addresses how to avoid debt collection and how to deal with debt collectors if the consumer falls behind with their payments. Alacrity recently held its first seminar at Perkins Square Baptist Church in Baltimore.  Alacrity’s own Tyrone Campbell, Jr., a Certified Collection Specialist, is a member of the congregation and was the program’s presenter.

Topics Presented

In the seminar, Alacrity discussed the power of creating a monthly budget for income and expenses and stressed the importance of sticking to a budget to best manage one’s money. If a debt collector contacts you, avoiding or ignoring them is not the answer. It is far better, they Tyrone explained, to discuss the issue and work out a plan to resolve the debt. Alacrity also shared many of the rules that collection agencies are legally bound to follow. These include contacting you at reasonable times, not harassing you, and not calling you at work if you inform them that doing so is inconvenient.

The Role of Collection Agencies

Alacrity’s president, Susan Hayes, explained that collection agencies perform an important service for businesses large and small. Many of Alacrity’s clients are hospitals and medical practices.  Hayes says, “We work with consumers to get bills resolved, but we do so with respect and dignity.”

Susan Hayes founded Alacrity Collections Corporation over 36 years ago. Active in the industry to this day, she is now serving her sixth term on Maryland’s Collection Agency Licensing Board. The board consists of a governor-appointed group charged with protecting Maryland residents from abusive debt collection practices.
